I have recently installed this food disposer, and realized the plumbing is a bit low. I had to lower the p trap a bit to get this to fit. Any tips to get the plumbing a bit higher than the drain. Water does flow fine atm, but my first bit of food had plugged up, not sure it there was issues from before as water wasn't fully draining. Seems much better after I snaked it into the wall. I was considering moving the drain from the food disposed into where the drain connects, but that that may disrupt the flow. As it would drain out towards the other drain.

I would remove the disposal and replace it with a piece of pipe. Then I would use the metal strainer that came with the sink (or you could also buy one if you don't have the original). I would put any food garbage you have into one of those plastic coffee cans (like Folgers) lined with one of those thin plastic bags you find for putting vegetables in at the store. When the bag gets full, dump and replace it.

To me, garbage disposals are a PITA, a waste of money and under-sink storage space, and a source of future drain stoppages.

I would return the current disposal (hopefully you're within the return window to receive full reimbursement. If not don't bother changing it) and get a different disposal. Try to find one with a higher drain port. Dry fit the new one to see if the drain port is higher.
