Tub shower with 1 1/2" drain to p trap question

I have a tub shower with a tub drain that is pvc 1 1/2" from overflow to bottom of tub drain going to a 2" p trap which goes to the 2" drain is that acceptable? I thought I read somewhere that the p trap should not be larger than the drain.
It is already done and don't know if it's needed to be redone. Any and all responses are greatly appreciated!

Check your question. You read correctly. The part from the tub to the p-trap is referred to as the waste & overflow.
