I have a short 30 gal. tank and it is leaking where the fitting goes into the top of the right side of the top.Can that fitting be replaced or do I need a new tank

A few pictures of exactly where the tank is leaking will help the experts here determine what your best fix would be. Also, how old is the tank?

From the pics, it looks like the leak is originating at the point where the CPVC joins to the galvanized elbow. If so, it's a quick fix. My first recommendation is to eliminate that solid connection and install a flexible stainless steel supply line between the tank to the CPVC, which should be mounted securely to the wall.

Thank you. what I saw it looked like it was coming from the nipple that is coming out of the tank. Its pretty corroded around the threads

WH manufactured March, 1997, 17 years old. Although the water heater itself does not appear to be leaking at this time I would start budgeting for a new one.

Thank you. What we did was replace the galvanized 90 with a new one and replaced the fitting from the 90 into the top of the tank.So far so good. Thanks to all for the suggestions

As mentioned, the water heater is getting gray hairs, time to think about a replacement.

An all plastic male adapter in a hot water situation is a leak waiting to happen. That needs to be changed out to a brass x CPVC male adapter.
