Ok, weird problem here...at least weird to me.

Just installed this new style, flat side, hide the s-trap toilets. Its a Home depot exclusive, Kohler Valiant. Got it installed, which was a weird installation including a plastic piece that bolts down on the floor flange and a pipe that goes up to meet the toilet to create the s-trap.

All this being said, it all seems to be functioning properly, tank not running, flushes fine, no leaks under the toilet (have not run caulk yet and was able to slide a paper towel between the floor and the toilet to see if it soaked anything up).

The problem is I heard a trickling dripping water sound any time it was used. It did not seem to come from the tank and the tank water level was never decreasing so I figured it must be a bowl problem. Grabbed a cup of water and slowly poured it into the bowl. The trickling sound started, stopped basically when I stopped. Got a bigger cup and dumped it in faster and did the same...did this a few times and discovered it only drained to a certain level. So then I decided to adjust the float down in the tank so the bowl would fill less and low and behold you add water and its fine...until you get past that certain point that it drains to keep a certain level.

Is this just a feature of these new fangled toilets to keep from over flowing? It is also a 360 flush that starts from one outlet at the top of the bowl.

Any advice is appreciated, Thanks in advance!

I believe what you are hearing is just normal operation for that newfangled type of toilet. The P traps in toilets are designed to fill the bowl with water based on the height of the P trap. The noise you hear is probably from the funky attachment connecting the P trap to the floor flange.

All toilets have a maximum water level in the bowl.

The bowl can only fill up to the outlet, you just can’t see the outlet.

Water seeks its own level.
