I'm thinking of finishing our basement and am trying to decide the best place to frame out our concrete walls. On our streetside wall, I noticed the sewer main heading out, but the tie-in comes down and angles in toward the basement and back out again. If it needs to stay that way, I'd lose an additional 10-12 inches of space because I'd have to bump out the wall. Is there a reason the PVC is angled out and back in again? Or can I redo the pipe and just send it straight down into the main drainpipe?

How deep is the line on the other side?
you can replace the wye with a long sweep 90 and add a cleanout tee above the 90.
But you are going to have to bust open the concrete wall a bit to tuck the 90 flush to the wall.

If you have to open concrete to push the 90 in ,you might as well just use the same thing that is there. Just eliminate the top 45 offset

Code wise, you can't use a sanitary tee to change vertical flow to horizontal flow
