Question from a buddy I couldn't answer...

Said his 1st floor has (under floor - never saw it so I'm not sure of the type/system) radiant heat supplied by a 75 gallon gas fire tank that (he says) also supplies hot water for the home. He's asking if he could switch over to a "tankless" version.

Anyone heard of this or installed such a thing?!?

Sure, just like any recirculating line, almost all tankless nowadays have a dedicated return line. NAVIENS my favorite. As long as the gpm works and all piping is with potable pipe and fittings it will work fine. Can set up a timer on the recirc I think, too.

The preferred way to go would be a combi. Most codes require heating to be separated from DHW via heat exchanger…I’m not a Hydronics pro, I don’t even know what “turndown” ratios are…
