Hi,
I am looking into replacing my sump pump in my basement I am not sure what the best solution is. My current sump pump is a 1/3 HP sump sump with no backup pump or battery backup. I'd like to get a battery backup but that is not the main issue. The main issue is that a few times the sump pump has simply failed to keep up with the volume of water coming in. I'm talking maybe 3 times in 10 years. My question is should I get a new 1/2 HP pump to replace the existing 1/3 HP or go to a 1/3hp dual pump system?

I think there's a brand out the call watch dog for battery back up, liberty makes a good pump I put a flowtec iny pit, check how much your current pump (gpm) against
1/2 horse pumps,

Your primary runs continuously and has not kept up at times? A 1/2 HP would be the quickest way to get more water out. Is the drain piping adequate size and depositing the water away from the house?

I am not a fan of the battery backups. If you are away for a day the battery will be drained. It also sounds like it will not keep up with demand dining an outage.

If you are thinking of the battery operated pump to provide additional volume for those peak times where your primary could not keep up you would probably need a dedicated discharge pipe. Most I have seen pump through the primary pumps diacharge

I would think with power still on the backup pump could run continuously but that would require investigation if the charger could supply what the pump needs. It’s an unusual use case
