I recently had the master bathroom remodeled. A couple of months after the remodel I noticed a foul smell coming from both sinks in the vanity. I have tried liquid drain cleaners and baking soda/vinegar/hot water but nothing helps. This smell did not exist prior to the remodel. Forgive me if this sounds crazy because I have very limited plumbing knowledge, but, while the new sinks are in the same place as the old ones we did move the shower to a different location. I noticed this morning the shower drain is beginning to drain slowly and is probably clogged with hair. Is it possible the sink drains are picking up the smell from a clog in the shower drain? If not, does anyone have a suggestion to get rid of the smell or what may be causing it. Many thanks!

did you replace the drains in the floor or did you connect to
Exsisting drains
are you in contact with your contractor
try snaking all of your drains
last thing is to get the water vaccumed out and camera the drains
in question (by a professional drain cleaning to camera the drain

Addition: Do both sinks have p-traps on them. Did the company have to do anything in the wall behind the vanity? Do you smell the odor inside the vanity?

I only notice the smell coming from the drains, not in the vanity. Both sinks do have p-traps. I am not sure about whether there is a new drain or if it was connected to existing. I assume it was connected to an existing drain because the old stand alone shower was turned into cabinets and the new shower was installed where a tub that never got used was.

I think if this remodel was recent enough I would call the
contractor was there a permit pulled???? If the contractor was
gonna use you exsisting drain they should have it cameraed
start with your contractor

Your vent may be disconnected or have a hole in it. They may have also added a AAV somewhere and it needs replacing

I put a new sink in the hall bathroom.
My wife's son (46) and his son (10) were living with us at he time.
They wife complained it stank.
When you spit toothpaste in the sink you have to rinse it down a bit.
That foam collects and starts to coagulate in the drain above the trap.
Nobody believed me. There were 4 people using that sink.
Run the water for 5-10 seconds after your done.
When the 2 moved out last year the sink stopped smelling.
The MB sink is back to back to that one and the MB never smelled bad.

Take some pictures of the drains. maybe they are not installed right

Also as Mr David mentioned to someone else in another thread make sure there is no gunk in the overflow hole. If they get stuff in them they will stink. Fill your sink up with all hot water and let the water run up to the overflow hole and try and get that cleaned out. Keep us informed.

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions. I tried what Mr_David said and let the water run for several seconds after I brush my teeth. Since I've started doing that the smell has gone away! I can't believe it! I have probably brushed my teeth the same way my whole life and this was never an issue until the new sinks were installed. But I'll take an easy fix any day!
