Hi,
I thought my toilet wax ring or seal was faulty because of some smells so I removed it. This is what I found (see photo below). I think it used to a PVC flange with a metal ring and the metal ring rusted completely. Rather than try to replace it, I saw at homedepot and youtube that people used the hydroseat repair (NEXT by Danco HydroSeat Toilet Flange Repair-10672X - The Home Depot).
So I put the wax ring over it, then screwed the hydroseat and secured the toilet (I thought for sure it was going to leak because there was no wax ring between the hydroseat and toilet). So far, no leaks but still I feel a draft and maybe slightly less musty odor from the toilet. I'm guessing it may be from the crawlspace air which is damp? Also, should I end up caulking the toilet? How do I know for sure my toilet isn't leaking?
Thanks!
