The shallow pump I have has a 1" NPT into the pump head and a 1" out. I would like to use this shallow pump to move water from a 250 gal tank to a 20 gal pressure tank with a 40-60 pressure switch. The pump would be at ground level and set right beside the tank and suppling the pump with hydrostatic water pressure.

Is it possible to use a 1-1/4" line out of the pump head to the pressure tank to have a faster water pressure recovery time over the 1" line out ? If it is possible, I would like to have a shorter pump cycle time to fill the pressure tank and kick the pump off.

Unless it is going a long distance, larger pipe will not help. You will get whatever the pump can supply and no more. Is that pump capable of working with a 40/60 switch? It needs a max pressure of more than 65 to do that.

Short pump cycle times are not good. A pump needs to run for at least one minute, two minutes is better, and running continuously 24/7/365 is best for the pump. Short cycling is what destroys nearly all pumps. Use as large a pressure tank as possible for the longest run time, or it is even better to use a Cycle Stop Valve so the pump runs continuously while water is being used instead of cycling on and off repeatedly. With a CSV a large tank is not needed. But the CSV further benefits the pump even if you have a large tank.

Hello Valveman and thank you for the wealth of information. First question, How would I go about testing the shallow well pump to find out what the max pressure is ?

Shows 3 bar max pressure which is 43 PSI. 20/40 pressure switch is the best you can do with that pump.
Ok I done the conversion for bar to PSI and yes that's what it was. So for curiosity what would happen with a 30-50 switch?
