Im trying to find a new shower handle/knob and I can't find any at the big box stores that will fit over the end.

Does that end part come off or is that the valve?

Im sorry this is first time working on a shower and I'm sorry for the dumb questions.

Thanks
Bill

that is the valve cartridge itself...does NOT come off unless you turn the water to the dwelling off and remove the screws.
That red ring makes me think American Standard https://www.americanstandard-us.com...-valve-cartridge/no-finish-a9544400070a?gQT=1

the notches are called 'broaches'. Count them, if 18, likely Am. Std.
If so, then google: TU trim kit handles
Thank you so much for the response. I counted the broaches and its 18. So this trim kit will work? Can I keep all the existing parts in place and just add this kit?
