Hello Everyone,
I'm a new member here and still pretty green overall on plumbing in general. I recently had to completely replace the shower and tub surround in our bathroom. After I ripped out the existing surround and the damaged sheet rock and everything else, I sweated in a new four-way as well as put in shut-off valves for the incoming water lines to this particular shower. Once I had roughed in all the plumbing I checked everything by re-energizing the lines and confirmed there were no leaks anywhere on any of the joints. Well that was several months back and this week I just finished getting everything in place and discovered a problem that I can't seem to understand. When the water lines are energized and pressure is put into the system there are no leaks anywhere. When I turn on the water and it comes out the spout for the tub there are no leaks anywhere. However when I enable to diverter valve and water goes up to the shower head water begins to leak in the area of the four-way valve inside the wall and drops fall onto the 2x4 base inside the wall. I can't figure out why it would only leak when the shower is energized but not leak when it's the tub only or when water is supplied to all the plumbing joints but the shower head is not turned on. I can see the joint for the pipe going up to the shower head and it is dry. I have an illuminated mirror on a telescoping wand that I got in and allowed me to see all four joints of the four-way valve where I had sweated them in and there is no water on them at all. The only thing I can think of is it somehow leaking from the cartridge but not sure that would show up inside the wall area?
Thanks in advance for any help!
