Hello. Not sure if I've posted here before, but, I have an issue that I'm getting sick and tired of calling hardware stores about so I'm just posting it here. LOL

so here's the deal. My cold tap in my bathroom faucet was dripping. I decided to replace the cartridge to fix it. I'm on my second one from the hardware store (the first one wasn't an exact replica or fit), but the result is the same: when I get everything put on, and turn on the water from below, water spurts out of the tap as if I have the handle moved all the way "on" even though it's on the off position. I've made sure I've put everything in as it should be (at least to my knowledge, I've never done this before!) Before you ask, I don't know what brand of faucet it is as it's not marked with the name. I'm using what appears to be a "universal" cartridge that matches identically my other one, with the exception of having a metal stem instead of a plastic one like the other.

Anyone have any ideas why it's doing this and what I can try? I'm hoping to not have to take the cartridge back AGAIN. LOL

Post good clear pics of the faucet.

Also post a pic of the faucet with the cold handle off.

If you still have the original leaky cartridge, then post several pics of that.

And some faucets have a different cartridge for hot or cold side.

I am using a cartridge that can be used for hot OR cold. So it is "dual purpose".

Shot in the dark here.....

Remove the cartridge and rotate 180 degrees and reinstall.

The flat portion of the stem where the handle slips on should face away from the spout.

If you have a delta or knockoff.

post picktures 😬

Depending on how you install a delta two handle stem it will turn off opposite.

This allows for round and lever handles and allows for one stem to be used for hot and cold.

Lever turns on toward the spout.
Round handles turn off to the right. (Hot cartridge)

But with delta the way it turns off depends on how you install the stem.

Tried that. Didn't solve anything.

Hmmm... well all I know is there's only two ways you can put it in. I've tried both, with the same result both times.

here you go. hope these match up to what you guys wanted. let me know if there's any more you wanna see.

Do you have the spring and rubber seat seated into the faucet properly ?

The large side of the spring goes in first then the black rubber cup fits over it.

Make sure you didn’t get the handles mixed up, sometimes that matters.,

Make sure the blue and red handle adapters can’t be reversed.

Try not putting the handles on......crack the stop valves on a little.,

Now use pliers to turn the stems and see if they will eventually get to a position the water stops.

I'm 100% sure the handles are not reversed.

I think I might have put the spring and gasket in wrong; as I said I've never done this before. I'll try it the way you said, and try what else you said, and see if it solves the issue.

When you turn the water valves on a little to use pliers instead of the handle, only do either the hot or cold. Dont do both at once. This way it’ll be easier to tell if you get it turned off.

You're a lifesaver! I changed the gasket and spring to just the way you said, and now it works like a charm! Problem solved! :) :) Thanks so much sir!!!
