When my well was installed, it was next to the tree line. Now that we have been around a year and have done some cleaning, the well is out in the open. It's a submersible pump well with all the accompanying equipment. The well head sticks up out of the ground a good foot.

Is it possible to lower the head below ground leve, add an elbow, and relocate the works farther away from the well? It would be 15 feet. If it is, I understand how to do everything but lower the well head. Any help?

The well head is supposed to be above ground, the piping that comes off of he pitiless adapter will be below the frost line, if you were to cut the well stand pipe down to ground level there is nothing to stop ground water and insects from crawling and seeping into your well. Every time you use fertilizers or other chemicals you will have a chance at contaminating your well. The below ground piping and all controls can be moved just make sure it's below the frost line in your area, chances are its piped with schedule 40 PVC.

That's true about Pitless Adaptors in the Upper States, but here in Florida (at least below Ocala for sure) there are no pitless adaptors. Just the casing sticking up a foot or so. In Bradenton (Manatee County) I'm not sure what the reg is. Here in Hillsborough County (the next County North of Manatee) the pipe must stick up at least 1.5'. And it is to keep water out of the well during heavy rains and flooding. We have such a thing as the 100 year floodplain where some areas have casing sticking up as high as 25'.

I wouldn't recommend cutting the casing off. I would simply run the pipe and wire down beside the casing and trench it to where you want the tank. Be sure you move the pressure switch with the tank. It's going to take more wire to do so.

Thanks speedbump - I hadn't thought of that. It does make sense.

I wonder though - if the wellhead is cut, the extension is watertight, and the well head is above ground in the new location wouldn't it be the same? I wasn't sure if there would be a performance issue with the additional curves. For the initial 90, I was thinking about adding a "T" and a watertight clean out so the pump could still be pulled and serviced. Thoughts? Is there a threading machine that could do the job with the pipe in place?

I'm not real sure what you have in mind, but you have to remember that the pump is hanging in the well casing and is supported by the Well Seal which probably has 4-9/16" bolts. These tighten two plates (sometimes 4 half plates) together with a rubber between them. This is the seal, but is not 100%, so if underground during a flood condition, they do leak. The pipe you see sticking up is the Well. That can't be moved nor can the pipe sticking up through the Well Seal. That pipe is what is holding the pump in place and where the water flows from it.

So to move the tank etc. You would elbow the drop pipe down beside the casing into the ground then elbow in the direction you want the tank etc. Same with the wire.
