When we remodeled one of our bathrooms and kitchen, we moved the cast-iron waste-pipe a few feet into the kitchen wall and replaced with PVC. Now when you flush the toilet above, you can hear the water draining quite loudly. Is there a way to quiet the noise with insulating foam or some other method? I have access to the pipe from the basement. Thanks and any tips would be appreciated.

You can put sound deadening material around it but the best thing would be to replace the pvc with cast iron again. Still a popular practice in new home construction
