The home my wife and I bought 6 years ago has a propane tankless water heater installed (no natural gas where we live). The biggest drawback I found is that it takes along time to get hot water even though my kitchen faucet is about 10 feet of pipe and the main shower about 15 feet of pipe from the water heater. I was working at a customers house which has a tank water heater (natural gas) with a circulation pump on it, you turn the kitchen faucet on and the water is hot in two seconds! Can a new electric tank water heater be more efficient then my tankless propane heater?

yes it has standing hot water.

I meant energy cost wise?

Electric is very efficient. It just usually costs more per btu to purchase.

Changing water heater type wouldnt get it delivered any faster. You’d need a circulation pump for that. Circulating hot water 24 hrs a day can get expensive no matter what type water heater.

Some people use timers, switches and motion sensors to turn on and off the pump.

Why do you want it to circulate 24 hours a day? It would only circulate if I turn on the hot water.

I don’t want it to circulate 24 hrs a day.

But some people might.

Changing the type of water heater will not get hot water to you any faster.

The only way to get the hot water to you faster is to use a pump, increase flow volume, install smaller pipe from the hot water source or moving the source snd fixture closer together. One or a combination of those four.

I assumed you’d use a pump. Then you have to make the decision on how to turn the pump on and when to turn the pump on in order to get hot water to your desired outlet.

You are so patient...
