Today, I flushed my toilet and ever since, there had been water pouring into the bowl non stop. So I opened up the tank (this is all new to me) and saw that the problem was that the tank was overflowing and the excess water was pouring back into the bowl. Heres the kind tank I have:
heres the part connected to the supply tube:
^^ The problem is that when that bobble rises, its supposed to cut off the flow of water from the supply tube into the tank but it wasn't working, even when I lifted the lever manually, it wouldn't cut the water flow off. I unscrewed it and played around with it a bit and unfortunately, now there isn't any water going into the tank at all any more. I have no idea what went wrong. Its a complicated ball valve (or whatever you call these things), heres whats behind it when I unscrewed it:
heres all the parts that I could take off manually:

any idea why the water flow into the tank via the supply tube has been cut off completely?
