Normally when I shower or do laundry or anything which is a large use of water the pressure tank runs a while builds up pressure shuts off like it should. Now it kicks on runs for literally a second shuts off for couple seconds then back then back off and so on during the whole time the water is used.

Thanks

That cycling on and off while you are using a shower or anything else is why the bladder in your tank is broken. Each cycle of the pump bends the bladder back and forth until it breaks like when bending a wire back and forth. When replacing a pressure tank you can use a Cycle Stop Valve which only needs a little 4.5 gallon size pressure tank. Your pump won't cycle things to death and you will have constant pressure in the shower. No matter how long a shower you want to take, there will not be any up and down with the shower pressure.

What actually caused this to happen. I don't want to get a new tank and do the same thing to the bladder. Is there any way to check to see if it is forsure the bladder. This is a craftsman mod 390.252159 Shallow well. I think I will try to get the same tank. It put out good water pressure before it started shutting on and off. And want to get something that will bolt up to the motor. Can I put that cycle stop valve on this bigger tank. 42 gal

Thanks

I just pushed in on the valve stem to see if water cam out. And nothing came out. Air nor water. Could this mean the bladder is blocking it. I do have good water pressure yet.

Contrary to popular belief tanks don't make pressure, the pump does that job. There is a large difference in bladder tank quality and Sears tanks are not known for their quality. Bolting a pump on a tank is not necessary either. It would be better as low as you can get it. Shallow well pumps can only lift water 25 feet, so the closer to the water the pump is, the better your flow and pressure will be.

If you don't do something quickly, you may be needing a motor too.

No air coming out of the schrader valve means your tank is completely water logged. It is possible that the air leaked out of the schrader instead of a busted bladder, but not likely. You can try airing it up again, but it probalby won't help. You can use a CSV with any size tank, but you won't need any larger than a 4.5 gallon size tank like the picture to the left.

I put in a new tank. all good now. I went with a verticl tank. the horizantal one that was the same size was nowhere to be found. I called and looked everywhere. this one worked out good though. thanks or all of the help.
