Was wondering if this was a possibility:
Currently have a tankless coil in an oil boiler. I understand they are pretty efficient in the winter but not in the summer because they require the boiler to stay hot all the time and you lose heat to the chimney. If I were to install an indirect heater is it possible to still feed the indirect heater with the output of the coil. I would disable the low cutoff on the aquistat so that the boiler did not fire just to heat the coil however my reason for thinking this is a good idea is to essentially pre-heat the water when the boiler was up to temperature. I am not sure if its a pointless idea in the sense that you are going to get the same amount of heat out of the boiler no matter if its supplied by the closed loop or whether you run the water through the coil or if there is some actual efficiency gain to pre heating the water in this manner.

I guess my thought is that there are occassions where you might be using the water and there is some residual heat left in the boiler (when its not running anymore) and you might as well use up this residual heat.

Thoughts?

Not looking to disconnect a safety switch. Looking to disable the low cut off which is what keeps the boiler hot all the time for the hot water. That's not really my question though. The question is can and should I preheat the water going into an indirect tank rather than just unhook in the pipes from the coil
