Hello, new to the group, so thanks in advance for the info. I'm remodeling a home that has 2 main sewer outlets, as it was at one time a duplex, running through the basement wall. One is on the east end of the wall, the other is on the west end of the same wall. Both look to be 3-4" cast iron. One is in relatively good shape, the other is cracked and in poor shape. It is my intention to run all of my new plumbing to the one good pipe. I would like to cut the other off, demo all plumbing running to it, and cap it. What is the preferred method of doing this? Both lines enter the basement horizontally through the block wall. I would assume that once outside of the house, the far pipe ties into the near pipe before exiting to the sewer main.

the only way to know for sure the direction and if the line is clear and usable is to have it inspected with a Line Camera. Camera owners usually have the ability to trace out the sewer line as well, with accurate depth reading.

I'm not really concerned with the direction or shape of the line I'm abandoning. I just need to know the proper way of abandoning it, capping it off, plugging it, etc.
