Please help! - Sump pvc water leaking

My sump pump ejects water out of a pvc pipe. I needed to cut the pvc pipe above the pump and it began to leak water back into the pump. How much water is going to leak from the pvc? Is it only the amount in the pipe from the pump to outside? Is it a risk to cut it more to speed it up?

Also, does water also come out of the bottom of the sump?

amount of water leaking out depends on how high the pump has to pump it up before it drains on it's own. if it's more than a few feet then there should have been a check valve and a shut off valve so you can service the pump with out a lot of back wash to deal with.
Pictures help. size of pipe? 3\4" ? 1" ? 2" ?

It was 1.5. You were right- the leaking stopped. There is a check valve installed but the water leaked back into the sump and drained out. Thank you for the reply!
