Hi Everyone,
First time homeowner, and very green to all things plumbing.
A couple of months ago, we had some piping in the basement replaced. Some of the old piping was replaced with PEX. I've noticed that some of the newly installed PEX piping seems to be developing what I can best describe as scratching/cracking along the exterior. See below (apologies for the suboptimal lighting):
The first pic is a section of PEX leading up to a first floor radiator, the second is a section of PEX that serves as a hot water supply line to the kitchen sink.
Unless I'm bonkers (not impossible), I do not remember this scratching being evident when first installed. It seems to me to be getting marginally more pronounced on both pipes as time goes on.
Some of the piping (which is clear) is also turning noticeably yellow.
Any ideas what could be going on here? There's nothing around it that could be scratching it as it moves around. Is this a normal part of PEX's contraction/expansion? Indicative of a possible defect?
I'm very new to all this, and am a little overwhelmed, so apologies if this is a silly question. TIA for any advice!
