About every couple hours or less I hear a very loud sound of water rushing/running in my walls for about 30 seconds at a time then it stops. Thought it was a toilet until I shut them all off and it still happened. My water consumption is almost 4 times the normal rate. Any idea what that could be?

Do you have a pump on your furnace for the AC. Maybe something like that is kicking on after it is full

Do you have a Grundfos water recirculation system installed? This is what I hear when my system is charging my hot water at the faucet.

The above two suggestions are good.

Also, maybe your sump pump is discharging and you are hearing that noise.

Or maybe the water heater is defective, and the temperature pressure relief valve is opening and releasing water.

Turn off the main water line, and see if the sound continues.

Are you on city water or a well pump?

Single family home, or attached home, condo, townhouse?

High water use can be a broken water main, after the meter.
Water can be leaking underground or under a slab or basement floor.

Or a fixture or appliance running constantly or leaking direct to drain.

Or a broken meter that reads too high, check with your city.

after turning off ALL sources in your house, go to your water meter, most have a little triangle, or something, that spins, even with VERY low flow (turns VERY slowly at VERY low flow)
