So, over 20 years ago, I added on to my house. Since the entire back of the house went out 14+ feet, so did the hose bib. It's attached to copper in the crawlspace. However, it has ALWAYS leaked. I band aided it by putting an extension adapter over it, but I'm older now and I want to fix it correctly. Back then there was no youtube and no PF. It's clear to me - looking at you two axe :) - I just need to disassemble the valve, replace the washer with a neoprene one (with grease) and die happy in my grave.

Cut the water off, drained, tried to get the top of the valve off - you can see some of the damage - started with a crescent, tried a vice grips, went to large channel locks... Went to home depot for some magic wrenches that never slip or round off - it said FU. I'm using another wrench to counter act the torque - do not want to snap it. Tricks and suggestions? I've tried some solvent but no joy. When wrestling with something like this, at what point do you tell the homeowner - sucks to be you, I need to cut pipe?

Thanks

Ok well that’s a Nibco valve and it’s assembled with an air impact at the factory. They can hard to get apart.

I use heat and remove the handle and packing nut then use a socket that fits the bonnet.

I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have success.

hadn't consider using fire :). If I can get the leak stopped (very trivial, just irritating) I'll be happy.
