Old Floor Drain Replacement

Howdy. Got a 1950's house and replacing the floor drain in the basement. Anyone know how to fix this by deleting and plugging the unused/unnecessary left section of the "Y" as shown in the photo? And also, on the right side of the "Y", I want to replace the old floor drain/P-trap assembly that was there with either another PVC floor drain...or a shower drain with P-trap? I do plan on building a nice tiled shower over all this (but can settle for a floor drain versus shower drain if needed). I only have experience with PVC and just lost on this right now.
