Non use of shower and bathtub

I live in a five year old townhouse where the developers couldn't have done anything cheaper and couldn't have used worse workers. A resident had to have her incorrectly installed 4 piece knock down shower completely replaced-there were gaps in the seam - took five years to have this slow leak happen-frightens me!

The shower and bathtub in my house hasn't been used for FIVE years-I sponge bathe which I will continue to do for several reasons. I don't know if there will be any problems now. As far as turning it on every month or two, I don't think it will matter at this point and please don't laugh at me, but I am afraid to turn it on. My plumber is having an operation and won't be available for six weeks. I appreciate your input. Thank you!

We have multiple bathrooms, but one is a bathroom with a shower/tub combination, which has only been used 3 times in 10 years. The only thing I noticed was my cartridge became harder and harder to turn, until I replaced the cartridge. Now, the valve works fine, and I suspect it will last a few more years. I would agree that just exercising the valve left to right, depending on which valve you have, without activating the water, will surely help.

Might be a good idea to pour water into the drains occasionally to keep the p-traps full. It's what keeps the sewer gas from entering ........... the water in the drain will evaporate.
