No hot water in Kitchen sink

Hi there, a few months ago the hot water pipe under the kitchen started to knock when using hot water only. As time has gone by, the knocking has gotten worse, and now the hot water only comes out in a trickle. We have been trying to avoid calling a plumber and have been searching the web for a solution to no avail. We have tried turning off the main valve and draining the pipes like on site suggested to recharge the air in the pipes, which seams to have made matters worse. Also, we have removed and cleaned the aerator in the faucet. It has gone from a mild inconvienance to I cant wash dishes over night. I'm sure whatever needs to be fixed or replaced will be something we can handle on our own, the problem is we cant figure out what to do next. Thanks!!!!

My first guess is that the washer in the supply valve under the sink has worked loose and is obstructing the flow of water through the valve.
