My spouse and I have owned our home for one year. The house was built in 2013. We haven't had any problems with our water until last week. The situation is: We have no hot water in our upstairs bathroom (tub, shower, faucets) no hot water in the bathroom/laundry room downstairs (shower, faucets, washing machine) we DO receive scalding hot water in our kitchen sink upstairs.... This happened 'overnight' literally. We have tried: reading the troubleshooting section of our hot water heater - pressing the reset button on the water heater, also turning up the temperature limit on the hot water heater, neither thing made any difference. We have been living in Québec for one year and our french is still quite poor, especially trying to communicate by phone. We would love to hear any thoughts a professional may have on a solution to our problem! We would like to fix the problem ourselves but realize we may have to call a plumber at some point.

Additional note/thought: There are water hammer arrestors installed behind our washing machine - is it possible they may be blocked with débris causing the lack of hot water? Or would they have nothing to do with water temperature?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

That did cross our minds as it has been -20 to -30 degrees (celsius) for the past couple of weeks. But we haven't had any change in the water pressure and the water is not cold, it's room temperature and tolerable for a shower but with the faucet handle turned all the way to hot it should be hot as it has been in the past... We are on well water as an additional note.

Is the kitchen close to the water heater? Can you turn on the hot lav sink faucet on and have full flow upstairs.

You could have cross over through a single handle fixture. Try shutting all the cold water valves at the fixtures (the ones under the sinks) you may have to search for the one for the shower. Then open up the hot at each point were you lack hot water and see if it returns.

violeti. is on to something I had a zurn single handl faucet in a Starbucks
do that I isolated the valves one at a time I change it to a two handle
faucet everything was normal
If your laundry is a single handle valve shut that off and see what happens

Is it possible that the kitchen sink has its own water heater? Could be a small tank type, usually under the sink, or even a tank less type.
