We recently had the faucets replaced in the 2 bathroom sinks. These are the faucets: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000COJ2BC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=

Now the cold water in one of the sinks has an odor and weird taste for the first 20 seconds or so.

The hot water is fine.

We thought it might've been a defective faucet so Amazon replaced it, but the problem remained.

We had the supply lines replaced with the faucets. We have also removed the aerator.

We've lived here for years and we've never had this issue before.

The problem is only in this one sink, and only for the first 20 seconds or so.

Any advice would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alan

Might be the water supply lines from the valve to the faucet.

I will get an awful smell and taste if I use a paste to lubricate the fittings when installing the faucet. Confirm that either nothing or just teflon tape was used with the supply lines.

If he did use a paste, as I have accidentally, that smell and taste will go away after about a week.

Since you tried everything else did he replace the pop-up assembly? Try flushing out the overflow hole. Won't hurt any!!!!

Thanks, Tom... I neglected to mention that the sinks were replaced with the faucets.

They've been installed for about 2 months now and, if anything, the odor and taste have actually gotten worse in that time.

I know nothing about plumbing, but this sure is strange - new faucets (twice in 3 weeks!), new sinks, and the problem only in the cold water on one sink!:(

Does the water stink on the cold side coming out of the spout. Can you take the supply line off where it attaches and
run water into a bucket and see if it stinks.

Thank you, Tom.

The pop-up assembly is brand new (came with the new faucet).

I just spoke with our installer. He wants to flush out the supply line. I will ask him to also flush the overflow hole.

Hi Tom,

Yes, that is exactly where the stink comes from!! (BTW, there is only one spout - shared between hot and cold.)

I know very little about plumbing, but I actually had the same idea!:)

I figured, logically, it might isolate a cause (though, at this point, nothing makes sense!)

When my installer returns (next few days) I will make sure he does that.

Thank you!

Alan

Thanks, again, but we did replace the new faucet with another new faucet from Amazon and that did not help. :(

Same type faucet = same type smell and taste.

It’s either the faucet, the connection hose or the water.,

If it’s the cold water then you’d have that problem at other faucets not just the new ones. You’ve said no problem at other fixtures other than the new ones. Didn’t have a problem before.

Some times this is all in your head, I have had customers who swear that i did some thing to their water supply when all i did was change a ballcock on a toilet in the upstairs bathroom, now how can this affect the water in the kitchen ? If you are sure go and have the water tested by a lab. I will make you a bet that everything is fine it is just in your head,
