Hi,

I'm putting in a second kitchen on floor 2 of my house to create a rental apartment.

Last week I posted a drawing and got some good feedback. No you cannot drain into a vent. Got it. This week I've come back with new drawings. Have a
look, here: http://imgur.com/a/IVVUQ

In the first drawing I need to punch out a wall and put a new vent in the roof (Connecting to the main stack will be too much hassle). I'm not too keen to work up there as there's about a foot of snow on the roof.

In the second drawing I would run a new wastewater line and connect with the downstairs sink line, and use the existing venting. I think this is the better solution but please point out any fatal flaws before I start busting out walls.

Your help is much appreciated!

Mike

maybe this will help?

each fixture gets a vent, each fixture gets a ptrap. a vent can not tie into the waste line

less than 6'' below flood line of the fixture

Frodo, some here know what you mean but might be a little mis-stated. Vent ties into waste line just above the trap arm of which is below flood rim of sink. Horizontal vent must be above flood rim of sink.

So Mike what that means is you have to run the vents up and over the fixtures
each p-trap gets its own vertical vent unless you use a double fixture tee. those vertical vents can be tied together as long as they are above all flood rims of fixtures. If any fixture backs up it cannot foul the vent.

What plumbing code does your area use and maybe we can give some references that you can look up

Thanks guys.

The challenge I'm facing is that the existing vent is in the floor of the second storey. Venting upward (six inches above flood line) will require either a) connecting to the main stack somewhere higher up (and ripping up a lot of wall) or b) creating new venting that vents out the roof (punching a hole in the roof and working up there in the dead of a Canadian winter)

I'm in Toronto, Canada. Any leads on where to find out what the code says?

Mike
