Thank you, I had to loosen the nuts on the one side and then I could twist the square valve. We have the same type for the whole home shut off so I'm debating whether we should get both replaced with one that doesn't leak gas if you loosen the parts too much (my fault but still, it doesn't feel safe)Cross ways is off , in-line with flow is on.

Thank you, yeah, it was very surprising to have gas leaking when I loosened it too much. I guess its ok for our whole home shut off but in an emergency I would really prefer something that I can quickly closeI do not install valves like you have for customer use. I don’t like a gas valve that you need a wrench to close for the customer.
It’s normal for it to leak if you’re loosening that nut. The nut is what pulls the whole valve tight. It’s a tapered fit.
