My sump pump randomly stops working

Idk what's wrong with it, bc if I poke it with a broom it starts back up? Anyone have suggestions before I spend a grand on a plumber? (The pump is only a year old and was self installed by a personal handyman)

That's my guess based off the little I know about these things. But I was hoping for some opinions before I fiddle around with things. Does this sound like the most likely issue? Its motor seems to work fine bc its currently pumping gallons of water out.

I'd bet the floats getting stuck, should be ziptied to the pipe in a way that it raises a bit to pump and so it won't get stuck.

I don't understand your comment. The controller is $75.

I would suggest that, when you replace it, go with a diaphragm pump rather than a float pump. The diaphragm turns the pump on as the water pressure increases. No float to get stuck.

That's interesting. I am in MD and when I click it it shows $75. The link must change to your location.
Smokex28 is in Chicago so the $75 should be correct.

I like using this controller with a manual pump or I wire tie the float so it is always on and out of the way.
This comes with two sensors so you can set the on/off levels to you situation. Sometimes certain pumps short cycle due to the float design.
Very easy to install. Just my opinion.
