I am roughly set up to to get rid of my well pump house and move everything to my garage. I recently looked at pitless adapters and saw the maximum weight claimed varied from 600 to 6000 pounds. Can anyone tell my why there is such a large discrepency and if the maximum is exagerated? I have a 427' well with a 3hp motor on 1-1/4" galvanized pipe. It was drilled in 1984. The well casing is 6". Can I safely convert to a pitless adapter? I am concerned about the weight on the adapter (I figure about 1200 pounds) and if an older well casing could cause any problems.

Sure you can use a pitless. Some are plastic and can't take much weight or pressure. Others are brass or stainless and can handle a lot of weight and pressure. If the casing is compromised it is probably best to cut the casing off below the pitless level and use a weld on pitless that comes with 6-8 feet of new casing.
