Is magnetic method to prevent formation of calcium and magnesium deposits inside a boiler or pipes a proven method?

I found magnetic filter from Norway company Polar as from Italian company Atlas. Magnetic filter for home water treatment from Polar is round 500€ when Atlas provides basicaly the same thing for one fifth of that price.

Can I expect anything from each of them?
