We have a well and we have had sediment come up through our pipes a couple of times as the water is stirred up at the well. I knew this was the case so I decided to flush out our water heater. After I flushed it out, my water pressure for both hot and cold is lower than it was originally and if one faucet is running, it is extremely low if you use water at a different location. Any ideas on how to gain my water pressure back and the cause of the loss? I flushed a good bit of sediment out of the water heater, but it was all clear when I started to fill up the tank after the flush. I’ve also cleaned all of the aerators at the faucets. We have an electric water heater. Any help here would be appreciated.

At the water heater drain do you still get a strong flow of water ?

If not then your water valve may not be fully open or if it’s a gate valve it could be broken.

If you are getting a strong flow of water from the drain valve then the water heater outlet may be obstructed.

In that case, connect the hot and cold washing machine bibbs together with a washing machine hose.
Now turn off the water heaters cold inlet valve.
Now open the water heater drain.
now open the hot and cold washing machine valves and let the cold water flow through the hot side of the water heater to back flush the water heater outlet.

It sounds like you have a restriction in the water heater caused by flushing. I would use compressed air to backflush it, over and over. the air should move the obstruction. Like someone else said, if it's both hot and cold, maybe you shut off valve is defective. But, you need to install a filter, I always install a filter right before the softener. Let us know what fixes it!

Have you taken an aerator off and checked flow then

Hmm, so maybe the hot water heater is a red herring. What's the flow you get at the pressure tank? It should have a hose bibb, connect a hose and see what you get. If it's low there, you could have a pump problem, or a well-full-of-sediment problem.

Tell us more about your well, depth, flow, static level, pump details, etc.
