Hi,
There's was a leak in the kitchen strainer, so we replaced it. When we attach the strainer to the drain pipe, the leak at the strainer is fixed, but now there's a small leak at the connection to the drain pipe. Our pipe arrangement is sort of odd, it doesn't have space to use the tailpiece of the strainer kit. See picture, a red line is drawn at where the leak is. The previous installation didn't use it either, it just directly screw the drain pipe to the strainer. My husband thinks maybe the o ring of the nut in the drain pipe is old, it looks to be glued on and not possible to remove. Do you think adding a new o ring to the nut will fix it? Should we scrap away the old one? Is there a way to fix the leak without replacing all those pvc piping. It looks custom and will have to cut and glue pieces together. We are complete amateur and don't want to make it worse than it is.
Thanks! Any suggestion is appreciated. The rates for plumber in our city is over $150/hr and it seems like something that should be easily fixed.
