Hey guys, new member, just have a question that's driving me nuts and want some advice.

The short story is that I've lived in my house for 3 years now and it's always taken a long time to get hot water to any faucet in my house.

I ended up just accepting this since my house is from 1925 and been through what looks like dozens of reno's over the years. Even thought I accepted it, I thought this was very strange because it seemed to take a long time to heat up regardless of if the faucet was on a short or long run from the hot water tank.

This weekend my main inlet water pipe froze and I was without water for 1.5 days. I had to open up a basement wall and fix a really terrible insulation job from a previous owner. Minutes after fixing the insulation the line freed up and I had water in my house again. It was a very isolated area that was affected. Two feet of copper.

However a really weird and pleasant side effect is suddenly my hot water is working great. Any sink in my house, my shower, my tub, they all get hot water in 10-30 seconds depending on distance for what used to be minutes. Seriously, most notably in my kitchen and shower... every morning I'd have to let my shower run for minutes before I could get in. It's just been routine at this point.

Anyway so now it looks like by some form of magic, after three years of putting up with this and stumping one 'plumber' friend, it looks like (for now at least) I have a normal functioning hot water system.

In the interest of learning I would really like to know if anyone has experience in why this might happen. From there I can go research the details of it.

Thanks!
