I have a Velux 60 gal solar water heater installed in 2015 and the gas control valve needs to be replaced. The gas company checked with some plumbing suppliers and found that the Honeywell WV8860Q1000 valve has been discontinued. Velux no longer makes solar water heaters so they aren't a resource. The Velux model number is TFF 060 2205US. Does anyone have a suggestion on what valve we could use as a replacement?

Hello TinNC,

In case you haven't seen https://www.plumbingforums.com/threads/honeywell-wv8860q-1000-gas-control-valve.26550/, the model # is the same but came with a different natural gas water heater brand: Bradford White. Ours became bad on the pilot light solenoid side where pilot light extinguishes after letting go of the knob in Pilot mode. The control logic board seems to still be good.

Would you know which became bad in the gas control valve? The control logic board or the solenoids?

Do you have a picture of your gas control valve (showing the front and right side with the WV8860Q label) and, if you have disassembled it, maybe the inside behind the casing, showing the logic board?

Thanks for so thoroughly responding. After I entered this post I got with a local person who does repairs on solar water systems and he is actually going to switch the system over from a gas backup to a tankless backup. I think in the long run this will serve us better. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond.
