Help, I was leaking hot water, so got new cartridges for my shower faucets. My landlord is so good to me and he was going away. thought I could fix myself and save him from calling a plumber on a holiday.
Installed the the same cartridge for both hot and cold I was told they were universal now.
Now my cold turns the wrong way and when I turn the cold water on it starts tp turns itself off???
Also, the shower isn't working tried new diverter but it didn't fix the problem. Took out the new diverter thinking it was a really big problem and that he will need a plumber....Pls let me know what I did wrong

What you have is a three valve faucet. They don't have cartridges they have stems. You need a rebuild kit. Do you know the make of the faucet? If you do I can point you in the right direction.

It is a Waltec, and yes it does take cartridges as I took them out and compared to same on HD website..

With the waltec they have hot and cold stems. Only difference between the two is the way they turn. That is why they turn the opposite way now. I'd recommend changing the seats as well. You will need a seat wrench or a Allan key will fit as well. The seat is what the Bibb washer makes a seal against when you turn your faucet off.

And when you say turn itself off you mean you open it and it turns off? That's pretty odd. I'm not sure precisely what you mean by that but maybe John will have an idea as to what it could be. It's hard to diagnose some things online. And reason I suggest you replace the seats is if you don't there's a chance it will start dripping again because the seat either destroyed the Bibb washer or wire drawing occurred on the seat and it no longer seals.

The valve may have a piece of bibb washer and/or the bibb washer screw lodge in the valve. This could affect the pressure and the diverting water.
