I have a leak in a wall and may need to remove and replace my water heater. So, I am wondering what a couple of these pipes are. Specifically the small pipe coming out of the hot water pipe on the top left, and the small pipe coming out of the drain pipe at the bottom. It looks like they both go into an exterior wall but I haven't found if they drain outside. I have not seen similar pipes on pictures of WHs online and I want to know if these are necessary.
