He is an experienced plumber, and knows a little bit about wells and pumps.

His son called to let me know he will be out of work for awhile. He was working on his own well today. It sounds as though the vise that was holding the pipe slipped, and his hand was in the way of the falling pipe.

That sucks! Althgough I know nothing about wells or his injury, it doesn't sound good.

Thats why I don't work on Air Conditioning and several other things. I don't know enough about them to not screw them all up. Too bad he hurt his hand, I hope he was able to get himself back in water.

Friday a guy on my site (not any of my employees) cut his finger off on a table saw. Everyone from every company went home thinking OSHA was gonna run to the site. I stayed and worked til 9pm trying to finish the job.

OSHA has stopped by my present job site 3 times now, always to cite someone for an infraction they observed from offsite. All of them fall protection issues. No general jobsite inspections as of yet. I am trying very hard, but I am sure they could nail me if they want to.

OSHA is so lame down here, would be better if you had a group like MSHA running the show, 2-4 inspections per year, penalties that actually sting, yearly refresher class.

At home in Canada we have WCB, they are not much better then OSHA but, but they were more on the ball with specific training for the tasks at hand. Instead of requiring a 10 hour general safety class, it was targeted training like a hour hour class on fall protection & fall arrest systems, or a 3 hours confined space awareness training. Down here I see **** that just wouldn't fly at home. In BC we also have the BC Safety authority which regulates gas & electrical work, plus tons more. 1 of there directives is all safety vests must have an X on the back, so you know if the worker in the distance is facing you or not.
