Is it electrically safe to put a sump pump underneath an iron bathtub? I rent the home, but long before I moved in the homes foundation was broken up to put in a basement bathtub but was never filled (concreted) back up So it remains open and years later it has started to allow water from under the foundation to emerge up onto the basement floor during wet winter rain months. So the landlord put a sump pump below the tub. He did a real good job of enclosing and piping out the water and put in a very good pump, but my question is; is it safe to put a sump pump in that open dirt hole underneath a iron bath tub??. I was thinking that if the pump were to ever short out, the electricity would travel through the water and could travel through the iron tub (if the water were to come in contact with the iron tub), and cause an electrocution if someone is bathing or showering at the time? Any thoughts on this Please? Thank you!

It’s fine if it’s grounded properly and has the appropriate breaker.

Here are some pics. Trying to send vid but having file size issues.

The sump pump needs to be on a GFIC outlet or a dedicated GFIC breaker. It would be nice if the tub had a hard connection to the cold-water pipe, but as long as the sump pump is on an GFIC, you will be fine.
