That's right, 8 years. My neighbor came over to me yesterday in need of help and I went to look at his water heater and it was covered in water. For about 5 minutes I tried and tried to figure out where it was coming from. Then I noticed the supply (cold) copper line on top was wrapped with duct tape. I asked him about it and he said there was a pin hole leak and he did that to fix it 8 years ago and it hasn't leaked. Well, it was leaking now lol.

I'm not a plumber but I soldered a new ~4" long piece of copper in for him. Not pretty, but it's holding water. I told him if my solder job doesn't last at least 8 years I'm going to be really upset :D

It's amazing how stuff like that holds up.

We run into a lot of hose clamps with a piece of rubber on the inside that have lasted years.
