Disk Faucets - How They Work

Hi there,

I was wondering if someone could give me a very detailed explanation on just how these particular faucets work. Every other kind makes perfect sense but for some reason can't wrap my head around just how the function. I understand that two disks regulate the water, I suppose the one thing I'm most confused on is what exactly the cylinder does.

If anyone can help that would be great.

Are you talking about faucets with ceramic disc stems or cartridges ?

Initially I was talking about the type with the ceramic disc's but if you could explain the difference between them and the cartridge type that would be great. Thank you.
