I'm removing a dishwasher. The dishwasher water supply shares a shutoff Tee with the nearby sink's hot water supply. I need to cap the shutoff Tee's now open outlet. It seems I need a 3/8" OD "compression cap" for this. But there is no rubber seal inside the caps I find, whereas the 3/8" flexible water lines do have a rubber seal. How will a plain metal compression cap seal the outlet? Am I required to use teflon tape, or a thread sealant, or ???

I find that compression caps seal fine w/o sealant.
NOTE: Each branch on a fixture should have it's own shut-off. Precisely why is to allow one of the items to be serviced while the other continues being in use.

Thanks!

I'm unsure of the nominal size of cap. The OD of the open threads on the Tee measure slightly larger than 1/2", yet as best I can tell it's actually a "3/8-in OD" compression fitting. I'm about to order a 3/8" cap from Home Despot for curbside pickup, and would like to avoid buying the wrong size. (There's 70 people in line simply to enter the store!)

take it from me. if you want to cap off a line to the dishwasher
tell the pimple faced kid at the door you want a
3/8'' od brass compression cap
You mean the grey-haired semi-retired old guy at the door? Got it.

A plumber was working across the street, so I bought a 3/8 compression cap off him for $3. The two-piece type with the floating compression ring. Worked like a charm and saved me from standing in line outside the home improvement store.
