Any secrets to getting a Delta Tub and Shower Faucet Bonnet nut off and cartridge out without stressing the nozzle behind wall then getting the cartridge out in one piece after many years?
The bonnet nut is so tight and dont want to ruin the fixture then have to rip sheet rock out behind tub wall to cap off then call a plumber who wont arrive for a week if Im lucky.

As that bonnet is stubborn I anticipate the cartridge to be stuck as well fragmenting into pieces making it difficult to remove.
The how to videos show a 20 dollar twenty minute job in a normal world turn into a possible headache. All to fix a dripping down spout.

Show me a picture of what you’re working with, Delta has made several styles and they’re different.

Delta 1400 Cartridge I think is the white assembly which sits under the brass bonnet between cart and the black gasket.
Thanks

Get a 2” fernco rubber coupling. Get a piece of 2” pvc about 12” long and secure the coupling to the pipe allowing about 1” of the rubber coupling with one of the stainless bands to go over the cartridge nut of the valve.

Now tighten the stainless clamp down securing it to the nut.

Now turn counter clockwise. Try that then report back.

PB blaster, then comeback the next day..........

I ordered all the stuff ,while waiting I tried spraying Food Grade Silicone Spray in the Cartridge while exercising the faucet not sure but maybe some silt was jammed in their but she is holding well with only an significant drop or two a minute so I am in holding pattern to see. Maybe I can get another 25 years? But prepared if it worsens. Thanks all

The spray did nothing. It’s going to start leaking again. That’s how they do when they start fail until they crap the bed totally.

There are seats and springs within that cartridge. If the cartridge is over 5 yrs old I replace the entire cartridge. If the cartridge is fairly new, I change the seats and springs.
