First post, glad to be here. Hopefully some of you sump pump or rain/drainage folks can help me out...
We recently bought a home and one issue brought up during inspection was water in the crawlspace. Here in the Pacific NW rain is a constant issue, and apparently the previously homeowner had tried to install a sump pump setup DIY. Under-sized ancient pump sitting in a 5-gallon bucket, with a 1/2" PVC outlet, which merely went up and out through a crawlspace vent, and literally dumped it on the outside of the foundation. Not real effective.
So we got various drainage company bids, and eventually settled on a company personally recommended to us. They came out, dug perimeter trenching in the crawlspace, put in perforated black flexible drain piping, backfilled with rock, and ran it all to a proper sump pump (Zoeller) with an enlarged basin. Then they put down new 6 mil vapor barrier.
Now... for the question. The company that did the drainage work thought initially they'd be able to connect to a nearby drain pipe in the crawlspace, but upon looking further it was determined that pipe went nowhere. So, instead, they ran a 1 1/2" sized PVC outlet pipe up slope in the crawlspace (probably a ~20' run with a 4' or 5' rise), punched it outside through another crawlspace vent, and connected it via a "Y" connection to the outside rain drain for the roof gutters. (This gutter drain line eventually connects out to the city's storm water sumped catch basin under the street.) Does this all seem okay?
Many thanks in advance. I've had to learn quite a bit as I go, and it's been an education!
