I have a lead pipe supply line that has pin hole leaks. I don't have the money to replace this supply line, but when I'm working again it will need to be replaced. Until I'm working again i was hoping to find a way to temporarily repair it.

I have used a small hammer and tapped the pin holes and this would close the pin hole holes somewhat, but the leaking returns over time.

Could i wrap the lead pipe where it is leaking with rubber cut from a tire inner tube and tighten it down with a stainless steel pipe clamp/ Band Clamp?
I understand that the lead pipe in soft and i wouldn't want to over tighten it. This would only be a temporary repair until i'm working again.

I would appreciate any help you can give me and i will post some photos.

I have done something similar in the past, although I always use a thicker rubber, such as from a heater hose. Depending on how bad it is, sometimes I can get the leak stopped completely, other times all that I can do is slow it down.

Romac makes a clamp on repair coupling in all sizes for times like this. I would not use it as a permanent fix but it will by you the time you need.

I didn't think about using a heater hose in place of an inner tube. I have a left over heater hose that i used on my truck and i think it will be a better choice. I appreciate the time you took to help me out!

Take care,
Mark

I will look into the Romac clamp in place of a band clamp. Chris, I appreciate the time you took to help me out!

Take care,

OP,
You might want to check this out as to suitability for your problem..... Rescue Tape
HD also has something called Stretch & Seal which appears to be similar. If the clamp doesn't work out this might be an alternative.
