a pipe accessible from the basement under the kitchen sink broke. Any ball park estimate on the cost for a plumber to repair or replace? Feel like I should be able to do it myself but I am not very handy. Thanks!

Can't really tell what's evolved from that picture.
Depending on your local plumbing rates it could range from $200 or maybe as much as $1,000 or more.

That's the dilemma. Those who are not handy at this sort of stuff must apply their skills at what they are good at so they can earn the $ to hire those who are handy enough to fix it.
You would not believe how many people hire me to replace a flapper inside a toilet tank.
Almost as many who have tried to fix it themselves, only to have to call someone to fix it right.
But the later made that attempt. Some are successful. Some not so.
