Hi - I am trying to connect an old Soapstone sink back to the drain pipe. It was previously connected with a 1.5 inch diameter lead pipe which I removed.

I now have a 1.5" brass drain from the sink which I would like to connect to a 1.5" Drain Trap (not sure what it's made of). I can run PVC from the 1.5" brass drain, but I'm not sure how I would be able to connect the PVC male to the 1.5" Drain Trap female.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I recently purchased this home and am new to DIY plumbing.

Thank you frodo and Geofd for the replies.

Any recommendations on how I could remove the lead in the joint? I saw this video on using a blow torch to melt the lead.

@frodo, is this the 2" rubber gasket that you were referring to? 2" rubber gasket

I've also attached a couple additional pictures of where the p-trap connects to the hub.

hard to tell sizes from a picture. it looks like a 2'' hub from over here
a 1.5 coupling will fit nicely min a 2'' rubber

blow torch not needed. . you can dig the lead out using a hammer and large screwdriver
it takes work and patience,
